Mincemeat Buns For an ‘elevenses’ treat or after-school snack, these buns are a delicious alternative to mince-pies but still pack a festive punch.

The recipe makes a sufficient amount to keep hungry young yummies happy for a couple of days and they couldn’t be easier to make - so ideal for getting the children involved.

I’m reliably informed they also taste rather good with brandy sauce…

Mincemeat Buns (makes 32).

375g (12oz) mincemeat

250g (8oz) currants

2 eggs

150g (5oz) caster sugar

150g (5oz) soft butter/margarine

250g (8oz) self-raising flour

1. Combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and beat well for about 2 minutes.

2. Divide the cake mixture evenly among the paper cases, putting them into bun tins if preferred.

3. Bake in a preheated oven at 160 degrees Celsius for around 25-30 minutes until golden and springy to the touch.

4. Transfer the cakes to a wire rack and leave to cool. Recipe by Mary Berry.
