Why We Love The Wildlife Trusts’ 30 Days Wild Challenge

At The Den Kit Co., we’re always looking for ways to encourage children to spend more time outdoors, use their imagination and connect with nature. That’s why we think 30 Days Wild by The Wildlife Trusts is such a brilliant idea for families.

The challenge is simple: throughout June, participants are encouraged to do one “wild” activity every day. That could be something as adventurous as building a woodland den or as simple as spotting birds in the garden, collecting leaves on a walk or listening to the sounds of nature.

It’s a wonderful reminder that outdoor adventures don’t have to be complicated — and that some of the best childhood memories are made outside.

Why 30 Days Wild Is Great for Kids

Children naturally thrive when they’re given space to explore, create and get messy. Outdoor play supports confidence, creativity and curiosity in ways screens simply can’t replicate.

Challenges like 30 Days Wild help children:

  • Develop a love for nature
  • Use their imagination more freely
  • Become more active outdoors
  • Learn through hands-on experiences
  • Build confidence and independence

Even small outdoor moments can have a big impact. Hunting for bugs, building dens, climbing trees or creating nature crafts all encourage children to slow down and engage with the world around them.

Outdoor Adventures Don’t Need to Be Expensive

One of the things we love most about the challenge is how accessible it is. You don’t need lots of equipment or grand plans to take part.

Wild adventures can happen:

  • In the garden
  • At the local park
  • On woodland walks
  • At the beach
  • During a picnic
  • Even on the walk to school

Simple activities often become the most memorable.

The Perfect Excuse for More Family Time Outdoors

Modern life can feel incredibly busy, and it’s easy for outdoor time to slip down the priority list. 30 Days Wild gives families a fun reason to reconnect with nature together.

Whether it’s creating a den, having an evening nature walk or reading stories outdoors, these moments help children build positive associations with the outdoors that can last a lifetime.

At The Den Kit Co, we’re passionate about encouraging imaginative outdoor play, and initiatives like this fit perfectly with that mission.
