Broomsticks
Making real tools from natural objects and getting children involved with this process has always been a passion of ours. Before demand for our kits exceeded our ability to make each mallet by hand we used to relish the process, knowing that the tools we were producing would help children connect to nature.
Here we’ve made a witches broom for Hallowe’en role-play (a great excuse). It was a beautifully absorbing activity with a rather satisfying result - though this one isn’t going to be cleaning any floors anytime soon.
All you need to recreate is string, twigs and a stout branch for the pole. Make an adult-sized or smaller version, just make sure there’s room on your broom - you never know when you might be asked for a lift.
