Willow Hearts

These pretty hearts were made from the springy young branches of willow and dogwood - with some pretty flourishes provided by the brave new flowers in the garden.

We cut two equal lengths of willow or dogwood for each heart, and tied the bottoms together using jute twine. The wood is then bent into a heart shape and tied again in the middle, with the two middle ends joining the bottom. It can be fiddly for little ones and we found an extra paid of hands were needed to hold everything in place whilst it was tied.

It was that simple! Four days after Valentines Day and ours are still hanging from the ceiling, making us smile.
